GIRL SCOUTS GET THEIR "HORSE FIX" AT
THE COLORADO CLASSIC HORSE SHOW
by Kate Edmonds, Youth Coordinator
Little girls seem to have a magical fascination with horses. Realizing
that girls and horses are a natural fit, Girl Scouts-Mile Hi Council will
partner with the Colorado Classic Horse Show to create the Horse
Fan Badge event. Girls, ages ten to 12, will attend the 32nd Annual
Colorado Classic Horse Show to learn about horse health, horse care
and the horse show industry. Girls of all ages who are interested in
joining the Girl Scouts will be able to attend the show free of charge.
Registered girls will also be eligible to win free riding lessons.
After the show, the girls will rotate through nine educational stations:
horse behavior, riding equipment and clothing, grooming, safety,
horseshoeing, adopting wild mustangs, famous horses and barn tours.
At the ninth station, equine veterinary students from Colorado State
University will teach the girls about horse health and dietary needs.
Girls will be able to continue their education with a special take-home
notebook filled with horse facts and fun activities.
AMHA Region 9 youth group, River Riders, will take part in this event
by manning the grooming station. Thanks, girls, for sharing your
knowledge and love of horses to your fellow Girl Scouts.
The event will take place Saturday, April 26th at the National Western
Events Center in Denver, Colorado.
